AP Metropolis - Audemars Piguet

Switzerland is known for its famous scenic beauty in snow capped mountains and being a traveler's paradise. Apart from that, the Swiss are famous for having a wide and amazing range of cheeses. But Switzerland is also home to some of the world famous watch manufacturers.  Renowned for their intricate workmanship and elegant style, Swiss watch makers have been responsible to create some of the classic styles that are copied by other watch manufacturers all over the world.

One of the foremost among these watch manufacturers is a company called Audemars Piguet.  Founded in 1881, the Audemars Piguet watches are known to many as the Rolls Royce of watches and not surprisingly, it also said to be owned by many Rolls Royce owners.  Such is the class and style of these watches. Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet, the founding fathers of Audemars Piguet, created the standard of excellence by designing and crafting complicated watches that exuded class and elegance. With their trademark registered 1882, Audemars, who was a maker of dial frames, and Piguet, a watch finisher, joined hands to create one of the oldest and most respected watch companies in the world. One of the most astonishing truths about Audemars Piguet is that the company maintains a detailed register of every watch made and sold till date.

In fact, Audemars Piguet is one of the rare watch companies whose responsibilities still lie in the hands of the founding family. "Innovation in harmony with tradition", the principles that were created by the founders are still followed religiously by the next generations. Thus, even today, Audemars Piguet creates some of the most exquisite watches and pioneer the different trends in watch making. Audemars Piguet is known for its intricate and complex craftsmanship of the watches they create. In fact, these compound parts and putting together of these parts are somewhat of a wonder.  Different timepieces such as chronographs, tourbillion regulators, chiming repeaters, time-zone displays, the Star wheel mechanism, the large-date calendar, power reserve and moon-phase indicators, intricate Grande complication designs, all reveal how amazing and secretive the entire watch making process at Audemars Piguet is.

Some of Audemars Piguet's collections include the Sports collection (consisting of the Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore collection), the Cassic collection (which includes the Jules Audemars, Edward Piguet, and the Classiques), the Tradition of Excellence collection (which is the limited edition collection), the Contemporary collection (consisting of the Millenary range such as the Metropolis perpertual calendar), and the Ladies collection (which includes the Deva, Dream, Facettes, Promesse, Danae, and Myriade range).

Apart from that, Audemars Piguet have also been lauded for their Terminator 3 watch, which is a limited edition prototype in the Royal Oak collection that was made specially for Arnold Schwarzenegger, for his film, Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines. In fact, the collection was so limited that only four was released to the public through an auction conducted by Christie's.

Audemars Piguet has given the world a range of firsts, including the world's first ultra-thin watches, as well as the tourbillion models with intricately complex mechanisms. Such is their workmanship that their collections can be viewed in a museum. Among the watches on display, is one superbly crafted genius of a timepiece, the smallest known minute-repeater pocket-watch, having a diameter that is smaller than five cent coin, which was brilliantly designed and crafted by Louis Audemars, in 1840.
